What is Toyota Safety Sense?

Toyota Safety Sense is a suite of safety features equipped on all modern Toyota vehicles and is designed to keep you, your passengers, and everyone on the roads safer.

 

The peace of mind comes in many packages that are included on Toyota Vehicles:

  • Toyota Safety Sense – C (TSS-C)

    • features Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Automatic High Beam.

  • Toyota Safety Sense – P (TSS-P)

    • enhances TSS-C and adds Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to its suite of systems.

  • Toyota Safety Sense – 2.0 (TSS 2.0)

    • Builds on TSS-P and consists of up to six active safety and driver assistance systems.

  • Toyota Safety Sense – 2.5+ (TSS 2.5+)

    • TSS 2.5+ adds new capabilities to the Pre-Collision and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control Systems and enhances Lane Tracing Assist.

 

Pre-Collision System



  • TSS-C

    • Pre-Collision System give you collision avoidance or collision mitigation support and availability in certain situations where a forward collision is likely to occur. In some cases, the vehicle will automatically apply the brakes to help the driver avoid an imminent collision.

  • TSS-P

    • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection has been updated to also help detect and mitigate potential accidents with pedestrians in certain situations.

  • TSS 2.0

    • Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low-light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection, Plus Daytime Bicycle Detection is designed to help detect bicycles in daylight conditions, as well as vehicle and pedestrians in both day and lowlight situations.

  • TSS 2.5+

    • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian (Daytime & Low-Light) and Daytime Bicycle Detection, Intersection Support and Emergency Steering Assist may warn you of pedestrians or vehicles when making turn at an intersection and provides emergency breaking under certain conditions. Equipped with emergency steering assist it is designed to stabilize the driver’s emergency steering and correct the vehicle to stay in its lane when avoiding a pedestrian, bicycle or another vehicle.

 

Lane Departure Alert


  • TSS-C

    • Lane Departure Alert notifies you if you happen to drift outside the lines in your lane when visible white/yellow lane markings are detected on the road.

  • TSS-P

    • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist adds the functionality of steering assist to your vehicle while driving and may even make small corrections to compensate for steering inputs to keep you driving in your lane.

  • TSS 2.0

    • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection alerts you if you begin to drift outside your lane when white /yellow road markings are visible, as well as monitors the road edges and curbs at certain speeds, keeping you on the road. Steering Assist also provides small corrections to steering if driver action is not taken.

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control


  • TSS-P

    • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is intended for use in highway driving situations and can automatically adjust your vehicle speed to maintain a set distance between you can the vehicle in front of you from speeds of 40 km/ to 180km/h.

  • TSS 2.0

    • Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control adds the ability to control and maintain the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you down to 0 km/h and then resume from a complete stop.

  • TSS 2.5+

    • Full Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control with Curve Speed Management adds enhanced curve speed management functions that will determine if the vehicle speed needs to be adjusted when a turn in the road is detected and automatically adjusts your vehicles speed as necessary.

Lane Tracing Assist



  • TSS 2.0

    • Lane Tracing Assist works in conjunction with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane when the lines on the road are visibly marked to prevent accidental departures from your lane.

  • TSS 2.5+

    • Lane Tracing Assist with Enhanced Line & Road Recognition houses an improved lane recognition performance, and the system can now recognize the correct line of travel in situations where the lines on the road may be worn or temporally obstructed.

Automatic High Beams


  • TSS-C, TSS-P, TSS 2.0, and TSS 2.5+

    • All vehicles equipped with a TSS package feature Automatic High Beam headlamps. This system is designed to detect oncoming headlights and taillights and automatically turn off your high beams and then automatically reengaging once you have passed the vehicle and it is safe to do so.
